Going paperless can have a downside for the courts. In a letter e-mailed to lawyers today, 95th District Judge Ken Molberg, presiding judge for the civil district courts in Dallas, describes the chaos in the courts as a result of the Monday night flooding in the basement of the Dallas County Records Building.
According to Molberg’s letter, all court records, including docketing and trial-setting records, are in the computer system that has been incapacitated. Molberg writes, “As of Wednesday, the civil district courts in this county (and likely all courts) will not be able to ascertain whether you are on the motion or trial docket. In many cases, if not most, they will not be able to access your filings.”
