Location and device independence are phrases that are working their way into everyday conversations. The idea is simple — legal professionals are no longer tethered to a bricks-and-mortar office, and can now access electronic case files that are served up securely and ethically via the internet “cloud” to any device that can get a connection.
Device independence means it no longer matters whether you’re accessing client information and case files from a Windows/Mac desktop, laptop, netbook, or tablet computer; a smartphone; an Apple iPad; or to some extent, an e-reader such as Amazon’s Kindle.
