It would be hard to put a finger on where and when crowdsourcing began. Wired put a finger on its pulse back in June 2006. But the act of taking a job usually performed by an individual or corporate agent and outsourcing it to a large, undefined collective has been over a century in the making. Take the rise of democracy, for example. Recently, however, crowdsourcing has been applied to app development and distribution, which is ushering in a new dealmaker for technology innovation: crowds.
