The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit dealt Rambus a major setback on May 13 when it ruled in two cases that the technology licensing company improperly destroyed millions of pages of documents in advance of litigation, and sent the cases back to the lower courts.
The decisions appear to pave the path for major victories for Rambus’ opponents, Micron Technology and Hynix Semiconductor, which have pointed to the destruction of documents in their challenges to some of the company’s patents. The Micron ruling is here, and the Hynix ruling is here .
