LexisNexis announced the launch of a mobile service with its new version 11 of PCLaw, legal billing and accounting software for law firms. The mobile service, called PCLaw 11 Mobility, is designed to work with any browser on smartphones or mobile devices running Apple iOS, Google Android, and RIM BlackBerry and connect to an instance of PCLaw running in your office.
PCLaw 11 Mobility requires no special software on your mobile device because you simply access a Windows Azure service via a web browser. That service lets you request, enter, and receive PCLaw data as if you were directly connected to your instance of the application running in your office on a server, desktop computer, or laptop. The Mobility service acts as a conduit between your mobile device and your office. In effect, the new service makes the instance of PCLaw running in your office a private cloud that can be accessed remotely, wherever you have internet connectivity, be it over a 3G/4G or wireless connection.
