In the coming year, a number of vendors are expected to throw life preservers to investigators and e-discovery pros drowning in the ocean of potential evidence generated by social networks. In fact, “social discovery” made it to LTN‘s list of the top 2012 vendor buzzwords.

X1 Discovery, a company launched last year by a Pasadena, Calif.-based enterprise incubator, Idealab, took the social discovery plunge last October with the launch of its flagship product, X1 Social Discovery. This is Idealabs’ first offering, but the application is undergirded by the X1 search engine technology, which has been on the market since 2003.
