LogicBit, based in Cary, N.C., has announced that the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing (DFEH) has chosen the company’s web-based legal practice management product, HoudiniESQ, to replace the agency’s current system.

HoudiniESQ will be hosted in the cloud for DFEH, which was established in 1959 and is the largest civil rights agency in the United States. The agency investigates civil rights complaints out of nine offices throughout California, and is part of the state’s Consumer Services Agency. The three-year, $1.1 million contract was awarded to LogicBit on June 24, said CEO Frank Rivera in a recent e-mail interview.

The state of California began the search for a web-based product at the beginning of 2010, and was seeking ways to cut costs by shifting resources to cloud computing, which they hoped would also improve operational efficiencies, save paper, and allow for improved services for the state’s residents.
