After years of slow progress, e-filing in New York is poised to pick up speed. As it has become available in more and more counties, the technique has been embraced by increasing numbers of attorneys and court personnel who welcome the added convenience and cost savings.
Last month, the Legislature approved a bill, A8368/S5635, that will allow the Office of Court Administration to expand e-filing authority considerably. Once Governor Andrew M. Cuomo signs the bill into law it will authorize mandatory e-filing for certain Supreme Court civil cases in Allegany, Essex, Onondaga, and Westchester counties.
