Miranda of “Sex and the City” fame memorably fell in love with her TiVo. Founded as Teleworld in 1997, Alviso, Calif.-based has been liberating TV viewers from their traditional viewing schedules with digital video recorder technology. It allows users to record standard- and high-definition TV — broadcast, cable, or satellite — and view shows at any time.
TiVo (Nasdaq: TIVO) sells DVRs online and through electronics retailers. The company also licenses its technology through distribution arrangements with DirecTV, Comcast, and other service providers worldwide.
