Novak Druce & Quigg, a national firm with roots in Washington, D.C., and Houston, wants to become the Bay Area’s next super-IP boutique.

Known in IP circles for its patent re-examination practice, the 65-plus attorney firm on Tuesday announced the launch of a new Cupertino, Calif., office. Six lawyers are relocating from its 15-lawyer San Francisco office. They are trademark partner Katherine Basile and partner Brian McKnight, who is associate chairman of the firm’s patent prosecution practice group, and four associates. Basile said she joined Novak Druce in February 2010 from Howrey, where she spent 10 years, as part of a plan to help open a Silicon Valley office and grow the firm’s trademark practice. Basile has handled trademark matters for clients such as Intel, Intuit, The North Face, and Boston Scientific. The firm also handles patent work for Apple and Oracle, she said.
