Consumerization of mobile devices is a business trend overtaking law firms like no other technological advance since the fax machine — and firms large and small are grappling with security and compliance issues.

Like any business, firms are tackling mobile device security to protect confidential information, but unlike other companies, also must contend with a more vexing overriding concern: attorney-client privilege. While the loss of sensitive proprietary information can be costly at worst and embarrassing at best, the loss of privileged communications and work product can trigger a malpractice claim.
