Following in the footsteps of metropolitan docketing groups, the National Docketing Association has been established to provide a networking forum for legal professionals in the private and public sectors, reports its president, Chris Gierymski, who is director of docketing at DLA Piper’s Chicago office
The new national group was inspired by associations in larger U.S. cities, including New York City, Chicago, San Francisco, and Los Angeles, he notes. The San Francisco Association for Docket, Calendar & Court Services, for example, was formed in 1984, led by Bill Makinney, firmwide manager at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman. Its goals include “facilitating communication between court clerks and members to promote a better understanding of, and compliance with, court rules and procedures” and promote exchange of information among members. The San Francisco group has a regular newsletter, and hosts meetings where judges and other court personnel address current issues.
