Sometimes, researching an article is straightforward and relatively easy. You interview sources, pieces fall into place, and a clear story emerges. Other times, you feel like you have fallen into an entirely different universe, where perceptions shift and sway, and you have difficulty finding your bearings until you eventually land again on solid ground.

Robyn Weisman and I experienced that phenomenon as we dove into the mysteries of how BigLaw is coping with electronic data discovery. It was a fascinating exploration, but what we both ultimately learned was that every time we thought we “got it,” we found ourselves questioning our premises.
