SanDisk says its latest Ultra SSD series of solid state disk drives, introduced last summer, provide “reliability, durability, and high performance for your laptop or PC.” The drives are available in two models: one with 120 GB of capacity for $215, the other offering 240 GB capacity for $450. They feature SATA II connection and support “Trim” data cleanups and “Smart” monitoring. The units typically provide up to 280 MB per second read speed and up to 270 MB per second write speed. Both can endure shocks and vibration.

Crucial , a division of Micron Technology, says its m4 series of SSD drives is available in four different capacities. All offer a SATA interface and transfer rates of 6 GB per second. The m4 series provides a sequential read rate of 500 MB per second and a sequential write rate that ranges from 95 MB to 260 MB per second, depending on the capacity. Mean distance between failures is 1.2 million hours; all provide RAID Support. Prices run from $112 (64 GB) to $738 (512 GB).
