Litera is upgrading its metadata cleaner for email, Metadact-e, by adding custom administration options and support for more file types. The product helps analyze and remove metadata in documents — typically, data within the document pertaining to the document itself or to the organization — before they’re sent, to help protect against accidental disclosure of information.

Metadact-e connects to email servers and scrubs away redundant or unwanted data based on a company’s policies for compliance and retention. It launched in version 1.0 in August 2011. Customer feedback led to version 2.0, which will be announced Wednesday, officials at the McLeansville, N.C., company said.
