Buffalo Technology, in collaboration with Intel has unveiled the Ministation Thunderbolt/USB Portable Hard Drive. It combines Buffalo’s Thunderbolt hard disk drive with USB 3.0 in a dual-interface compact unit, says Austin-based Buffalo Technology. The product, previewed at this month’s Computex show in Taipei, is expected to be available later this summer.

Bus-powered, it requires no additional power supply. The unit couples a 5 Gbps SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port for legacy support with the 10 Gbps Thunderbolt technology developed by Intel to deliver fast interface speeds and compatibility with both PCs and Apple Macintosh computers. It is backward compatible for USB 2.0. Housed in an aluminum body with a transparent frosted top, the device features an indirect disk access LED indicator on the underside that illuminates its supporting surface.
