On Monday, Norwalk, Conn.-based Xerox Corp. announced the acquisition of Lateral Data, an e-discovery technology provider, for $30 million. Lateral Data’s flagship software, Viewpoint, enables corporate legal departments and law firms to install e-discovery software in-house to manage tasks from collection to review to production using a single software package.
The acquisition extends the offerings of Xerox Litigation Services and complements the hosting provider’s e-discovery services to now include software that can be installed and operated on premise. According to Randall Burrows, managing director of XLS, Xerox had not dealt with Lateral Data and Viewpoint before, but a client in common had recommended Lateral Data as Xerox had no offering for customers to manage in-house e-discovery software and processes.
