The 8th annual EDRM Kickoff Meeting, held May 16 and 17, kept the steady momentum of the Electronic Discovery Reference Model think tank humming like the proverbial well-oiled train tracks. St. Paul, Minn.-based George Socha and Tom Gelbmann, co-founders of the organization, hosted the event, which was held as is its custom, on home turf at the elegant St. Paul Hotel. By the end of the sessions, there was a lot of news to report.

For those new to electronic data discovery, EDRM consists of a group of EDD activists who work together to establish guidelines, set standards, and deliver resources. The group was established in 2005, and created the iconic EDRM, which has pretty much been universally accepted as the official shorthand of e-discovery protocols. The EDRM website has become a go-to location, not only for instructive graphics, but for field manuals and EDD education. According to the organization’s website, since the EDRM’s launch, more than 900 EDD experts, vendors, and users — from more than 250 organizations — have collaborated together on the stated goals. The group sets up projects, working groups, and holds two in-person meetings per year.
