Long Beach, California-based Epson America is updating and expanding its WorkForce series of flatbed document scanners to its product line this fall. The DS-70000, DS-60000, and DS-50000 large-format scanners will replace Epson’s GT-30000 an GT-20000 models, while the DS-7500 and DS-6500 letter-sized flatbed scanners will replace the GT-2500 model.
Unlike previous iterations of the WorkForce series, all five of the new scanners will sport several identical new features, each of which may be useful in a legal setting. These include the ability to automatically scan PDFs so that they are immediately searchable; book spine correction to balance out the distortion that occurs when scanning hardbound materials; automatic duplex scanning that can determine the size of a document and whether it’s one-sided or two-sided; ultrasonic double-feed detectors that halt scans should two pages get stuck together; and USB 2.0 connectivity.
