Trust and skepticism are needed in equal measures when your law firm is installing a time-and-billing system, speakers advised on Tuesday at the International Legal Technology Association’s annual conference in National Harbor, Md.

When informally polled by panelists, about half of the 40-person audience for the session, “Lessons Learned From Time and Billing System Implementations,” said their firms are nearing a time-and-billing systems upgrade. Such upgrades may be just one of many simultaneous projects for the IT department, but perhaps the largest project ever for accounting, observed panelist Barbara Schane-Jackson, director of project management at Sullivan & Cromwell.
