Apple Inc. today confirmed that its new iPhone 5 will give in to consumer demands for a bigger screen, and will also have a thinner case and fourth-generation cellular connection.

The iPhone 5, which runs Apple’s iOS 6 mobile operating system, is 4.87 inches tall, 0.3 inches thick, and 3.95 ounces. The iPhone 4s and 4 were 4.5 inches tall, .37 inches thick, and 4.9/4.8 ounces, respectively. Extra height in the new version allows for a 4-inch screen, compared to 3.5 inches on previous versions — meaning users get an extra row of icons on the home screen and greater resolution for applications and media.
