Most of us never consider what software we need to open and view a file. Most operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and Apple OS associate file types with applications so documents open in Microsoft Word, PDF files open in Adobe Acrobat; and spreadsheets open in Microsoft Excel.
But what about those rare occasions when you don’t have the necessary software installed on your computer? What do you do when someone sends you a Microsoft Project file, or an AutoCAD drawing, or a PaintShop Pro image? Do you call IT and simply demand they install more software?
