With their compact size, quality output, and moderate cost, sheet-fed document scanners from Canon, Epson, Fujitsu, and Hewlett-Packard Co., are a consummate desktop scanner companion, helping users scan documents from clients and business cards from colleagues. Sheet-fed scanners work differently than flatbed (aka desktop) scanners that move a scan head over the document to capture an image that lies on a flat surface like a photocopy machine.
The four sheet-fed scanners compared here move a document or image over scan heads that can capture a du-plex (two-sided) image. All load paper from the top and output at the bottom, so you must keep the immediate area clear of clutter. The Canon imageFormula DR-C125, however, has an optional exit path that leaves the paper standing in an output tray connected to the scanner after an abrupt U-turn.
