Hopkinton, Mass.-based EMC Corporation has announced a new line of PCIe-based flash cards called XtremSF in its "Xtrem" family of flash server and storage devices designed to speed application performance by reducing latency and increasing throughput. The new line includes server caching software XtremSW Cache that runs in a storage array.

XtremSF is a half-height, half-length, single low-profile card that sits in the server’s PCIe slot as direct-attached storage to accelerate read and write performance. The EMC flash card can achieve 1.13 million input/output operations per second (IOPS) and cut CPU use by 50 percent, the company claims. The device is available in 550 gigabyte and 2.2 terabyte multi-level cell and 350 GB and 700 GB single-level cell models.
