Opening Bell: At the New York Hilton, LegalTech New York officially kicked off on Tuesday, January 29, with a keynote address from Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher partner Theodore Olson, a former U.S. Solicitor General. To a packed house, Olson discussed recent and upcoming United States Supreme Court cases, focusing on privacy rights in the digital age, health care reform, copyright issues, and more. The keynote was sponsored by Content Analyst Co. and KPMG. Robin Sparkman, editor-in-chief of The American Lawyer, interviewed Olson after his speech, discussing marriage equality cases (http://at.law.com/LTNV13TO).

The second keynote, on January 30, was a spin on television talk shows: "The Morning Show! Episode 1: The Judicial Perspective — Managing Big Data, Proportionality, Data Security, and Privacy." Patrick Oot, general counsel of the nonprofit E-Discovery Institute and special counsel of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (appearing with the usual disclosure that he speaks only for himself and not for the SEC), served as moderator of the session. Oot offered a sneak preview in this video (http://at.law.com/LTNV13PO).
