Sunday, May 12 is Mother’s Day, so what better time to treat your favorite mother to a new
toy
technology gem? Here are some suggestions (some slightly abridged for clarity and space):
1. A subscription to Ancestry.com and a neat document scanner so Mom can scan family pictures and documents into her Family tree. Ancestry is a really good/fun relational database for genealogy. Also, there are a huge number of free genealogical sites on the web as well as content specific sites, such as Fold3.com which stores military records like Revolutionary Soldier logs. Ancestry.com trees can be shared with family members and it’s easy to print family history books from the site to be given as gifts. Ancestry also has iPhone and iPad apps so it’s another reason to give Mom an iPad! (Don’t forget the stylus!) But one caveat: neat does not support iOS.
