LegalTech West Coast kicks off Tuesday, with three panels that have ties to recent and upcoming stories in Law Technology News!
>> TECH AUDIT: D. Casey Flaherty, opens the two-day show, at 9 a.m. at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, with what is sure to be a lively keynote: "Raising the Bar on Technological Competence The Outside Counsel Tech Audit." Flaherty, who is corporate counsel at Kia Motors America, has gained quite a bit of attention over the last year by creating a "tech audit" to assess the technology proficiency of the outside counsel vying for work from the automotive giant. The audit tests how well the firm’s associates can use basic technology, such as Microsoft Word or Excel, to conduct simple legal tasks. So far, nine firms have taken the test, and all failed. Flaherty uses the information to choose counsel, and to negotiate rates and set improvement goals for the firms he hires.
