Editor’s Note: As I wrap up my tenure as editor-in-chief of Law Technology News, I wanted to spotlight one of my favorite “Stem Cell” profiles. Donna Payne, CEO of PayneGroup, is a tremendous leader in our community. She was honored by the International Legal Technology Association’s Distinguished Peer Awards for Vendor Thought Leadership in 2013. In addition to running her legal technology company, she was a columnist for Law Technology News in our early days, reporting on new and interesting products and trends. Since then she has written many nuanced articles (and served on ALM panels) addressing privacy—one of her passions.
In December, Payne invited me to a three-day intensive training course in the nuances of Microsoft Corp.’s Word—so I cashed in my Hilton miles and flew to Seattle for a “buswoman’s holiday.” It was an amazing experience and a huge confidence builder (who isn’t intimidated by the depth of Word?) Thanks to the fabulous trainer Susan Horiuchi, vice president of professional services. I highly recommend this program to any legal professional. Plus, I got to spend time with Payne and her amazing circle of friends. It was a great vacation.
