It's no secret that technology is rapidly outpacing the law. New lawyers in many jurisdictions are required to take continuing legal education programs routinely titled "Bridging the Gap" to teach essential lawyering basics as they transition into the workplace. But few, if any of these courses cover issues of technology and law, where education is most sorely needed

In 2012, I founded IT-Lex, a 501(c)(3) organization to bridge the technology gap for novice and veteran attorneys. We focus on e-discovery, information security, privacy and other interesting intersections of technology and law. We hold conferences; publish articles, educational videos, and a scholarly journal; and we fund a large cash-prize writing competition for law students. Our first national educational event, the Innovate Conference, will be held Oct. 17-18, in Winter Park, Fla. (near Orlando). The conference kicks off at 1:30 p.m., on Oct. 17th, and wraps up at 6 p.m. on the 18th.
