Six news items to get you ready for weekend cocktail parties and other current events chatter:

1. Major Security Loophole in Apple’s iOS7. Friday, Sept. 19 marks the highly anticipated arrival of Apple Inc.’s iPhone 5s and 5c in stores. Apple’s other major unveiling took place earlier in the week when it released its latest mobile operating system: iOS7. While the iPhone 5s/5c launch has been a success, the rollout of iOS7 has been bumpy. Forbes reports that one bug has already been discovered in the new operating system that allows users to bypass the iPhone’s lockscreen. According to Forbes, users can bypass the password screen by swiping up on the locked screen and clicking on the alarm clock to access the iPhone’s camera and photo library. Hackers can then post or share those photos via social media. According to multiple sources, Apple has responded by saying that it “takes security very seriously” and are working on a “fix in a future software update.” The security bug isn’t Apple’s only iOS7-related headache. Users have reported problems trying to download the operating system, while iPhone 4s owners might have battery drainage issues if they upgrade to iOS7.
