Employers in Florida may have one less screening trick up their sleeves — a bill is pending in the legislature that would ban employers from compelling employees to disclose their access to social media accounts.

According to Andrew Hinkes on Berger Singerman’s E-Discovery Reporter Blog, Florida S.B. 198 proposes to bar employers from requiring employees and job applicants to give them access to social media accounts. The bill would also protect employees and applicants from being penalized or not hired because they refuse to provide access.
