The multi-talented Patrick Oot sure knows how to throw a party, and find interesting venues, and he turned to the iconic Santa Monica Pier to kick off the third annual E-Discovery Institute Leadership Summit. (Of course, it takes a village to create a great event, and in this case the instigators included Kurt Leeth, Barbara Hanahan, Danielle Nicholson, and Sarah Kelly.)

The pier is a short walk from the conference venue, The Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, and the opening reception was held in the pier’s covered carousel room and its adjoining patio. (And yes, they turned on the 1916-designed carousel so we could ride!) The buffet dinner was a hoot for the beach-casual venue, featuring delicious build-it-yourself tacos — and piles of In-N-Out Burgers (which made all the California ex-pats very happy).
