Six news items to get you ready for weekend cocktail parties and other current events chatter:

1. Samsung Joins the Electronic Eyeware Parade. According to a patent filing with South Korean officials, Samsung Electronics Co. could be readying its own electronic eyeware product. The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that Samsung’s design patent application is similar to that of Google Glass, which is currently in the beta testing phase. However, Samsung’s application stresses that its smart spectacles will be geared towards the sporty crowd. WSJ reports that the patent application proposes to cover eyeglasses “with earphones integrated, allowing [users] to take phone calls and listen to music during workouts.” Meanwhile, another major company seems poised to join the burgeoning smart spectacles war. According to a Tuesday Wall Street Journal article, Microsoft Corp. is currently testing its own electronic eyeware. Between smartwatches, electronic eyeglasses, and shoes connected to smartphones, pretty soon there won’t be any part of the body that isn’t covered by a smart device. I wonder if anyone is working on the “Smart Belt.”
