CEO Larry Page has confirmed that Google Inc. has signed an agreement to sell Motorola Mobility—which it acquired in 2012 for $12.5 billion–to Lenovo, for $2.91 billion. Lenovo is best known for taking over IBM’s popular ThinkPad computers in 2005.
Page announced on Google’s “Official Blog, calling the deal “an important move for Android users.” Google’s Motorola Mobility acquisition, he said, was designed to ” supercharge the Android ecosystem by creating a stronger patent portfolio for Google and great smartphones for users.”
