Why does it seem so difficult to convey to the C-suite the urgent need for information governance protocols that achieve concrete results? There is plenty of conversation in the e-discovery crowd, but how can we better achieve traction within our workplaces? Who should be our IG champion? Are we looking for (IG) love in all the wrong places?

We are immediately confronted, of course, with the proliferation of chiefs who potentially have the right to stake a claim to ownership of IG within their organization, be it a corporation, firm, or governmental entity. Consider the laundry list of titles: CEO, COO, CIO, CFO, and some less obviously identified by their acronym: chief legal officer, chief compliance officer, chief technology officer, chief information security officer, chief privacy officer, and chief audit executive. If there were a spectrum of classic C-suite titles, these are all on the more traditional side, and each has a valid claim to own a piece of the IG puzzle.
