At the International Legal Technology Association educational conference in Nashville, Tenn., Nishan DaSilva, senior director of Business & Technology Strategy, Microsoft Legal, demonstrated a preview of Microsoft Matter Center for Office 365. Matter Center is a document management and collaboration application for Office 365 that organizes files by client and matter within Outlook and Word.

The development of Matter Center shows that Microsoft understands that many enterprise business decisions are heavily influenced by outside lawyers and legal department employees. When legal departments and law firms serving as outside counsel adopt Matter Center, they will be poised to collaborate on documents and communicate better with their corporate clients that also adopt Matter Center and the Office 365 platform—a key focus of Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella’s “mobile-first,cloud-first” strategy.
