Thomson Reuters has released an iOS app for “Black’s Law Dictionary, 10th Edition.” The new app works on Apple Inc.’s iPads and iPhones.

Black’s Law Dictionary is a staple legal research tool and is widely cited in legal documents and judicial opinions.The 10th edition contains more than 50,000 terms, including 7,500 new entries. Features in the new iOS app include:

  • Spell checking: A spell checker function provides alternative suggestions for misspelled search terms under “Did You Mean”;
  • “Define in Black’s”: Select a word in iOS and tap the function “Define in Black’s” to obtain the definition in the law dictionary;
  • Enhanced linking: link to Black’s from words and cross-referenced words from search results; from within definitions; and from Black’s, link to Westlaw content via the WestlawNext iPad app;
  • Word of the Day: audio pronunciation for all “Word of the Day” entries; link to the full definition of a Word of the Day in Black’s; history feature provides quick navigation to previous “Word of the Day” entries;
  • History of viewed definitions can be sorted by date or by alphabetical order; and
  • New structure and format is designed for easy reading and navigation.
