The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, updated its “Guide to Privacy and Security of Electronic Health Information.” The new version 2 includes practical scenarios explaining when a business associate relationship forms between a covered entity (CE) under the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and a third-party or another CE, and a seven-step approach for implementing a security management process.

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) under HHS provides support for the adoption and promotion of electronic health care records and health information exchange. It also offers educational resources and tools to educate and assist health care providers with keeping electronic health information private and secure.
