When it comes to an information security policy, IT’s plan looks a lot different than the legal department’s. Up until recently, cybersecurity has been treated as primarily a technology issue. However, major data breaches have been a rude awakening for organizations, many of which are now being implored to treat data security as a business-wide issue.

As cyberthreats continue to grow in both breadth and frequency coupled with the U.S. government’s more stringent stance on cybersecurity, a vigorous and all-inclusive policy needs to be put on paper, according to Darlene Quashie Henry, vice president, associate general counsel, corporate and compliance at Home Depot, who spoke at a SuperConference panel on May 12 in Chicago.
