Chief information officers may get named in lawsuits with increasing frequency following a cyber breach. For example, the CIO of the Office of Personnel Management has already been mentioned in news reports as a possible defendant in response to the massive breach which impacted more than 21 million people.
Typically, the CIO is responsible for information systems, and cybersecurity is a top issue company-wide. Other top company officials also may be vulnerable.
