For the uninitiated, the cross section of law and technology presents a steep learning curve, with vernacular, practices and concepts that can be difficult to get a handle on. Fortunately, many resources exist to catalyze the learning process and overcome the knowledge gaps often in play. Created earlier this year with the goal of making legal technology more accessible to practitioners, the Legal Technology Professionals Institute (LTPI) has previously released a glossary of terms associated with the e-discovery process. LTPI is now following up that effort with new guidance on the topic of electronically stored information.

Released Nov. 11, the Standard ESI Stipulations template is comprised of two resources, the first a “Model E-Discovery Order” and the second is a “Model of Stipulated Production Specifications,” which focuses on standard metadata to be included in productions. The documentation is designed to provide an example of how practitioners should approach ESI during the e-discovery process, and can provide the basis for initiating agreements with legal opposition in a live case.
