The White House has issued two executive orders that are expected to have far-reaching impact on the federal government and likely will impact the private sector, too. As a result, government agencies and U.S. corporations need to closely watch the latest initiatives from President Obama to improve cybersecurity.
Kristen Mathews, an attorney at Proskauer Rose, explained that one of the executive orders creates a Federal Privacy Council to improve cybersecurity in federal agencies. The other executive order creates a new advisory commission in the Department of Commerce, called the “Commission on Enhancing Cybersecurity.” It will spend ten months preparing a report that will list recommendations over the next decade to address cybersecurity weaknesses in both the public and private sectors.
