Consumer privacy remains at the helm of many cybersecurity-related issues, and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is positioning itself to captain efforts for greater data protection.
The latest development in the agency’s efforts comes from the announcement of its plans to compile a study on the credit card industry’s data security auditing processes. Comprising the study’s data will be information from nine auditing companies on how they assess companies. With this, the FTC aims to measure the auditors’ levels of compliance with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCI DSS), implanted for organizations handling credit cards provided through major companies like Visa and Discover.
