Intellectual property is a tricky arena, as filing patents can require aptitude with both law and technology. Attempting to make the process less daunting is Silicon Valley-based PowerPatent, which through its ProvisionalSoftware has provided a platform that integrates both inventor and lawyer throughout the patent-filing workflow.
“Filing a patent application is a legal process and requires an extensive knowledge of patent law to be able to prosecute your application before the office,” Bao Tran, PowerPatent’s founder, told Legaltech News. “It can be done, but requires a significant amount of homework on the part of the applicant to be versed enough to draft the claims, respond to office actions and determine legal strategy. Thus, the collaboration improves quality while keeping costs low.”
