Today is World Intellectual Property Day – which is celebrated annually. It was created in 2000 by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Though some in the field question why the decision was made to set aside a day for the topic, the WIPO started the observance “to learn about the role that intellectual property rights (patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright) play in encouraging innovation and creativity.”
Vishal Gupta, an attorney at Steptoe & Johnson, told Legaltech News that “World IP Day celebrates the role that intellectual property has in encouraging innovation and creativity.”
