On April 11, 2016, the non-profit Electronic Discovery Institute (EDI) beta-launched the EDI Distance Learning Program and the underlying EDI Discovery Practice Certificate that EDI will award to candidates after completing a robust curriculum.

To obtain a certificate, EDI asks students to complete a curriculum of 40 core classes and five electives, answer online quizzes, read course material, and write a substantive 800-word article on a related topic. While students may enroll in courses any time after the release date, the courses will release in two phases in a spring/summer and fall/winter cycle.
