The latest trends about cyber hacking and computer fraud will be the focus of a panel to be held at Legaltech West Coast 2016 on Monday, June 13. Called “Protecting Against Cyber Hacking and Computer Fraud,” the panel will address topics such as computer fraud and abuse cases, preventing corporate espionage in the information age, and combatting misappropriation of trade secrets.

The discussion will be led by Matthew Blake, CEO of Franklin Data. In a recent interview, Blake explained that there will be various issues of interest to lawyers and corporate executives discussed. These include:

  • Helping clients understand what cybersecurity means to them and what an organization needs to do to protect itself and its data. That includes knowing what data is, where it is and how it is stored;
  • Business security risk and responding to such threats as ransomware, as well as working with such agencies as the FBI;
  • Consumer issues, such as those experienced by the breaches at Home Depot or Target, and how these can relate to shareholder value; and
  • The issues raised by the Internet of Things. These could include breaches at a residence or breaches at a hospital or other health-care setting.
