If big data weren’t transformative enough, the international legislation created to secure it continues weaving a web of red tape of increasing difficulty to navigate. In aiming to guide companies through the ever-growing sea of compliance requirements, the Center for Responsible Enterprise and Trade (CREATe) on May 16 released a whitepaper, “Cyber Risk: Navigating the Rising Tide of Cybersecurity Regulation.”

Rife with statistics around global and U.S. legislation, incidents and responses, and costs to companies, the whitepaper serves as an overview of global compliance requirements and response initiatives. On the coattails of what CREATe referred to as “the pervasive increase in hacking and cybersecurity incidents,” the paper covers “the ongoing wave” of procurement requirements, international court-imposed developments across the globe, government regulation, and legislation.
