Standing before the law, one always needs to present some measure of personally identifiable information (PII), such as a verifiable identification or address. This usually means presenting anything from driver’s license to a utilities bill or rental contract — commonplace items that many keep in a secured location or on their person at all times.
But what about those without such luxuries as stable housing or an established relationship with a community? For them, obtaining and holding onto PII documents is a difficult, if not impossible endeavor, despite the fact PII may be more necessary in their daily lives.
