Often, innovation lies in a combination of creation and augmentation, and this amalgam of approaches can be found in the operations undertaken by Shell Oil over the past year.
Among the reasons that Shell was chosen for an award for In-House Innovator at this year’s Innovation Awards was the company’s ability to save over $20 million by transitioning hundreds of its matters to appropriate fee arrangements. This process, along with the others pushing Shell into the spotlight, was led by Vincent Cordo, Jr., an experienced business leader and entrepreneur, who was hired by the company as its first-ever global litigation sourcing officer.
